IMG_8865 IMG_8866 IMG_8867 IMG_8868 I was soooo filthy dirty when I finished ripping up that old carpet but it had to go!! BECAUSE...what was underneath it was the beautiful, original pine plank flooring!! I KNOW!!! That old dingy carpet had to go and what a beautiful space this is going to be when the bare pine is revealed :) MORE PICS TO COME after...I go back with a scraper and scrape away the layers of the old backing that is glued to the pine planks, ugh. Oh well, it will be worth the time and effort :) It's going to be beautiful! Thanks for following...take a minute and enter your email  in the space at the top right corner.  This will put you on the list to receive all the news from KHH! Including our NEW WORKSHOP coming soon which is to die for!!! Just know that it includes a can of AMY HOWARD ONE STEP PAINT!!!AND, Kim Hoegger HOME is the NEW RETAILER in the area for it!! Whoo hoo!! We are rocking now!I would love to hear from you! Let me know what you think of the new sites and if the new workshop sounds interesting to you, give me a shout!XOXO,Kim

Weight Watchers, Jillian Michaels, Core Balance Diet

As part of my goals for 2013, I have taken on the challenge of getting healthy and fit FOR ONE LAST TIME. Yep, that's right ONE LAST TIME! I dont ever want to have to do this again...lose 15, gain 15, lose 15, gain 15...so frustrating and really defeating.

I have tried it all and with much success...Weight Watchers, Jillian, The Core Balance Diet, The Fat Flush, and I have loved each one while I was "in the mode"(you have to get "in the mode"). Most recently I have been using LoseIt which I really like alot! I have even spent two years training with a personal trainor...only to gain the weight back and lose the muscle tone when I got a kidney stone and had to have two surgeries to remove it. It took me 6-9 months to feel like doing anything at all and at that point...well, you know the story...I would have to start all over again.

The reoccuring problem for me(and maybe for you) is that when I STOP using the plan and get back into my normal routine...the weight slowly comes back. So slowly in fact, that it really feels like I have control and then BAM! My pants feel a little tight and the zipper is starting to pull, my clothes look a little more lumpy than they had before...Dang it!! It really makes me crazy!!!

How many times have I been there...too many too count! So what's the solution? I WANT to be healthy and fit and that seems like it should be enough but it isnt. Simply wanting it should work but it doesnt. The problem lies in that I actually have to MAKE IT HAPPEN and it's alot of hard work. In fact, most of the time(as I am sure you have experienced) it requires changing my entire life from dawn to dusk which is probably why it doesnt last, it's unrealistic at least for me.

So what's the solution?

I was listening to a Tobi Fairley Mastermind Telecall today(she is my business coach and I love her telecalls!) and she was talking about "DESIGNING" our design process from initial client contact to installation. She wanted us to chart our process from beginning to end marking along the way our services that make our client's feel special; a really interesting topic of discussion and one that is essential to establishing great client satisfaction and referrals.

Hmmm....I pull together design projects for clients everyday. From start to finish, I "create"  beautiful, comfortable lives for them within their homes. I create a life that functions for them daily in a very beautiful way.

Dining Room Whole

Light bulb moment!!!

WHY AM I NOT DOING THAT FOR MYSELF???

Why am I not "DESIGNING" a healthy and fit lifestyle that works for me? Why am I struggling to make someone else's plan fit my life...it's never going to work. That's like trying to make a sectional sofa fit in a tiny room...not gonna happen because it isnt what you need! I need my own plan, my own menus and schedules that work in my life. The way I like to live it. :) Is it really that plain and simple?

WHAT works for me? WHAT works for you?

Being at the gym at 5am everyday??? Ummm, I dont think so, I REALLY enjoy my sleep and for the first time in the past twenty years, I can sleep-in because I dont have to take children to school. So, sorry, but I have earned the extra z's and I intend to enjoy them! BUT, being at the gym by 9am, two days a week...now that's appealing and something that could happen and I would really enjoy :)

And what about food, that's a biggie right? Every diet that I have ever tried has RESTRICTED my food intake and the types of foods that I could eat or at least that's how it felt when I was following the plan. "DON'T eat this, you CAN'T eat that". I always feel like I am a two year old and am constantly being told that I cant have something. Anyone that knows me, knows that that boat ain't gonna float!! Tell me NO and I immediately start trying to figure out how I can get around the NO and have what I want.(I see my Mom and my Hubby shaking their heads in agreement, lol)

Just starting a diet makes me feel deprived and that is a recipe for disaster.

I LOVE food, really love food. I am a "Foodie" and proud of it! Love organics, love chef prepared dishes, love to eat out at REALLY GOOD restaurants and I LOVE to cook when I am not rushed; so cooking dinner after a long day's work doesnt interest me...I want to be fed. I want comfort. And comfort is not preparing a meal that may or may not be eaten because my family is all over the place with their schedules. Solution?

"DESIGNING" a menu/dining plan that FITS my lifestyle. One that comforts me when I need comfort and one that allows me the leisure time I require when I want to prepare a meal. One that has food available for my teenagers when they appear in my kitchen and for my hubby after a long days work...sometimes 7-8pm at night which is long after I have become hungry. This plan will take some work to get it right but do you see where I am going with this?

For me, a "DIET" isnt going to work but a custom "DESIGNED" plan for the life I want to live just might do the trick!!! Why didnt I think of it sooner? I have only been "DESIGNING" for twenty years!!! lol

So what about you? Are you struggling with your weight too? Stubborn 15-30 pounds? Why not spend the time creating a plan that works perfectly for you? I think it's a brilliant idea!! And I am really excited to get started on mine!

Stay tuned for more thoughts on creating my healthy and fit, beautifully "DESIGNED" new life for 2013! I can't wait to share it with you soon!

I LOVE designing beautiful homes for the lives of my clients. If you are looking for someone to assist you in the area of design, please give me a call :)

Sherwin Williams Paint works like a dream!!!

Over the past month or so, I have been working on a really neat little bedroom project for a twelve year old girl. It has been so much fun! Really bright colors juxtaposed with a little bit of vintage...dreamy! Take a peek...

INITIAL CONCEPT BOARD

It all started here with an Olioboard, a great tool for designers and design enthusiasts alike. Try it sometime for fun! The client and her daughter were thrilled with the concept!

Below are a few of the "before" shots that show how the room looks now and the layout of the room. The client had already painted the walls Sherwin Williams Fun Yellow when I was contracted to do the job. Fun Yellow is really more of a chartruese than a yellow and I immediately thought of Designer's Guild fabric and wallcovering...so much fun to use!

Marburger Farm Antique Show

It's that time again...and it's my favorite time of year! Fall is finally in the air and it immediately makes me think of Roundtop, Texas and the infamous Roundtop Antique Week and Marburger Farm Antique Show. I get giddy just thinking about what I will find.

Marburger Farm 2

If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE antiques and just about anything with a little age to it...from buckets to bookcases and stoneware to Staffordshire, I LOVE this stuff! And if it has a chip on it..all the better because someone loved it and used it.

So this time of year makes me giddy and it's not just the wonderful cool front that always seems to blow in just in time for antique week but it's the magic and wonder of what I will find that I just cant live without. Maybe it's another headvase to add to my collection or maybe it's an old piece of damask to use on my Grandmother's chair. Or maybe if I am really lucky I will find an original oil painting of a beautiful floral(I have an addiction to those). Everyday is an adventure and an exciting experience as I find fabulous treasures and meet the very interesting people who collect such wonderful things all across the country and beyond.

Got plans at the end of the month? Check out Roundtop, Texas.

The Chamber of Commerce is the place to call for reservations as it's really tough to find a place without them. They keep a list of the lodging that's still available so be sure to give them a call if you decide to make the trip and they can direct you in finding lodging.
Be sure to check out the Marburger Farm Antique Show too! It is simply the best when it comes to the complete package! Amazing vendors with stellar antiques, wonderful food and always an appearance by an author or celebrity of some kind! And if you are paying attention you might see Sandra Bullock, Rachel Ashwell, or some other well-known celeb as they frequent Marburger Farm!

OH!! Dont forget the PIE!! You have to visit Royer's Cafe while in Roundtop! It's one of those things that you simply have to do!!! The BEST pie in the country hands down! And the steak is out of this world! My all-time favorite dish is Micah's pasta...delish and I always have a slice of the buttermilk pie...the best I have ever had! And for those of you who were fans of my restaurant, The French Pear, and loved our buttermilk pie...this is the same one as I used Bud's recipe! So get on over to Royer's and get yourself a piece of pie!!

Springtime at Marburger Farm

IMG_1295
Marburger Farm was especially lovely this Spring. The smell of hyacinth in the air...ahhhh, it makes for such a wonderful start to a glorious season. I love it!

I guess you could say I am a flower girl, I simply love being surrounded by fresh flowers as you will see by the pics from the show. This season I chose green and white as my color palette, made casual by the use of natural burlap. Wrapping potted plants in burlap was an easy and inexpensive way to bring about the casual yet elegant look we find so alluring.

IMG_1400
Simply cut a square of burlap that will reach as far above the lip of the pot as you desire. Cut, place on a flat surface and place the pot in the center. Pull the burlap up around the pot and tie with raffia. You may use floral picks to hold in place if the raffia doesnt do the magic. I chose to let the burlap fall casually. Simply wonderful...try it! The beauty of this is that you can water your plants and not worry about taking off the burlap, the water runs right through! Do allow it to dry out or you may have a moldy mess.

I can happily say that this beautiful charming boy and his sister were sold as a pair and will remain together as they have been for a very long time.

Antique marble trivets are making a comeback in kitchen design. This show we had some truly gorgeous ones in really unique shapes like this oval one...so lovely and what a great way to display cooking oils and vinegars on your island or on the counter next to the range. Lovely.

That's all for now, gotta run some errands. More on Marburger and Kim Hoegger HOME later. See you soon!

Nicolas King Charles Hoegger

 Nick
King Charles Nicolas Hoegger, lovingly referred to as "Nick" my adorable, regal Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is regal at best and melts you with his big, brown puppy eyes. He is extremely intelligent(except when he forgets to go outside to potty). And until my husband decided to get involved, he was very calm. My husband decided to teach him to play "ball" and Nick has never been the same! He is hyper now at the site of a ball or the mere mention of it! No more the calm, regal, lap puppy that I had dreamed of for years...nope, now he runs in circles and jumps over the sofa and chews up shoes(ok, I guess that's not my husband's fault), he even leaps into the air to catch the ball being thrown across the room. He is ridiculously crazy for the game of ball. However...he is also very precious and excited to see me no matter what(even after he gets scolded for doing his business on my new rug). He sleeps as near to me as he can get when I am watching T.V., sometimes right on my head as he lays across the back of the sofa. He loves to ride with me to take the kids to school and barks at the crossing guard, I dont know why. Could it be the bright, neon yellow parka? All in all, he is a dream come true and so much fun. We all love Mr. Nick(except when he barks ferociously at everyone who enters our home and attempts to bite their legs). We know he is only protecting us. Needless to say, he is the King of the Castle
